The brief

The craft brew scene in Sweden as well as the world is blossoming, more and more people are discovering the novel flavours that can be achieved in a beer. However, brewing small batches of beer is a manual labour therefore the challenge the breweries want to tackle with you is: how can we reach a higher degree of automation in the brewery process?

The background

A lot has happened on the Swedish beer scene since almost everyone ordered a “stor stark” when they went to the pub or a restaurant. Nowadays people are more prone to order an IPA, Saison or perhaps a sour beer, some even have specific hops as favourites. Along side this development, somewhere between 200 and 250 small breweries have been established in Sweden. Besides the commercial development of microbreweries, the homebrewing scene has practically blossomed with more and more people creating good quality craft beer at home. Two of Norrbotten´s microbreweries are Tjers bryggeri in Överkalix and Pite Bryggeri in Piteå and these breweries are collaborating on this challenge.
